Anthropic will rent about $45B in AI compute from Nscale over six years, running on Nvidia Vera Rubin chips from a West Virginia data center.
Anthropic agreed to rent approximately $45 billion in AI compute from Nscale over six years, TechCrunch reported August 26, running on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chip system out of a Nscale data center in West Virginia, with capacity expected to come online in late 2027. The deal dwarfs Anthropic’s other recent infrastructure commitments: $10 billion with Volta in August, $5 billion with AMD in July, a $1.25 billion-per-month arrangement with SpaceX in May, plus expansions with Amazon (an added 5 gigawatts in April) and Google/Broadcom.
Anthropic has now struck a string of large compute deals over roughly eight months, a pace the company frames as necessary to keep pace with OpenAI’s own infrastructure spending. Nscale, for its part, has been assembling a book of AI-lab customers by building out data centers tied to specific Nvidia chip generations rather than general-purpose cloud capacity.
What it means for you
None of this changes Claude pricing or availability today, since the capacity doesn’t land until late 2027. But the trajectory is the story: Anthropic’s compute commitments have roughly quadrupled its prior largest deal in a matter of months, which is either a confident bet on sustained demand for Claude or a sign that frontier labs are locking in supply years ahead because they expect Nvidia’s own capacity to stay the binding constraint. If you’re building a business that depends on Claude staying price-competitive with OpenAI’s models, this is the kind of deal that funds that competition, for better or worse.
