Australia establishes a new Office of AI
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese created an Office of AI inside his own department to coordinate national AI standards, ahead of a policy speech in Sydney.
The Office of AI sits inside the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and will work with Industry Minister Tim Ayres and Assistant Minister Andrew Charlton to design Australian AI standards and pull together AI work scattered across ministries. Albanese says it makes Australia the first country to fold AI oversight into one national framework.
