Genesis AI in talks for $500M robotics round

Genesis AI is negotiating a $500M raise at a $3B valuation for its robot foundation model, roughly 29 times the size of its entire seed round a year ago.

Genesis AI is negotiating a roughly $500 million funding round that would value the robotics-foundation-model startup at about $3 billion pre-money, Bloomberg reported July 23 citing people familiar with the talks. Premji Invest is said to be leading the discussions, with HSG (formerly Sequoia China) and Northzone weighing further participation. As with any in-progress round, the terms can still move or fall apart before signing.

The jump is the story. Genesis emerged from stealth just a year ago, in July 2025, with a $105 million seed co-led by Eclipse Ventures and Khosla Ventures, backed by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, French billionaire Xavier Niel, Bpifrance, and HSG. Genesis hasn’t disclosed that seed round’s valuation, but the $3 billion figure now on the table is roughly 29 times the size of the entire seed check, raised just twelve months ago. Genesis builds GENE, a universal foundation model meant to act as a shared brain across different robot hardware, trained largely on synthetic data from an in-house physics engine rather than only real-world robot demonstrations, alongside dexterous robotic hands and sensor gloves that capture human-hand movement as training data.

What it means for operators

Genesis is one of several robotics-software plays, alongside Walden Robotics’ $300M seed and the broader physical-AI funding wave, betting that a foundation model can generalize across robot bodies the way LLMs generalized across text tasks. If you’re evaluating vendors in this space, the valuation math matters more than the press release: a 29x year-one markup means the next round’s investors are pricing in a specific bet on synthetic-data training paying off at scale, not on shipped, revenue-generating deployments yet. Treat GENE and rivals as still pre-commercial until Genesis publishes real deployment numbers, not funding numbers.
