Google AI Mode starts booking travel

AI Mode now tracks flight prices in 180+ countries and books hotels through Booking.com, Expedia, and other partners, paid via Google Pay.

Google added three travel features to AI Mode on August 27: flight price tracking with email alerts, available in more than 180 countries; hotel booking through a conversational interface, rolling out first in the U.S. in English with partners including Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, and Marriott; and a points-and-miles display showing loyalty-program costs alongside cash prices for flights and hotels, available globally. Google described the update as positioning AI Mode as “an AI travel agent of sorts,” moving beyond finding information toward completing parts of the booking process itself, integrating with more than 300 airlines and travel sites and handling payment through Google Pay.

What it means for you

This is Google’s search product taking on transactional authority it didn’t have before, comparing prices, picking a hotel, and completing payment inside one conversational flow. That convenience comes with the same due-diligence problem as any AI agent you let spend money on your behalf: verify the price, cancellation terms, and loyalty-point math it shows you against the airline or hotel’s own site before confirming, especially early in rollout when the integration between AI Mode and 300-plus travel partners is still new.
