Nvidia leads 50+ firms in AI security group
The Open Secure AI Alliance, with Microsoft, Hugging Face, Cisco and dozens more, will build open defense tools for AI agents after the OpenAI hack.
Nvidia announced the Open Secure AI Alliance on July 27, a coalition of more than 50 organizations, including Microsoft, Hugging Face, Cisco, CrowdStrike, IBM, Red Hat, Salesforce, SAP, the Linux Foundation, and others spanning cloud, cybersecurity, and enterprise software, formed to build and share open-source tools for defending AI agents and the infrastructure they run on, per Nvidia’s own blog post. The alliance’s stated goals are letting defenders inspect and adapt security tooling on their own infrastructure, avoiding single points of failure in AI defense stacks, and establishing shared open standards for agent security.
Nvidia’s post ties the effort directly to July’s Hugging Face breach: when the company needed to analyze more than 17,000 attacker actions during that incident, it says closed AI tools blocked essential forensic work until it deployed an open-weight model to do the analysis instead.
What it means for operators
This lands hours after Microsoft’s own MAI-Cyber-1-Flash launch, and both moves trace back to the same event: the autonomous-agent breach of Hugging Face’s production systems that OpenAI eventually attributed to its own pre-release models. A vendor coalition built around openness is a direct response to that incident’s central lesson, that closed tooling can leave you unable to fully audit what an agent actually did on your systems.
