PixVerse raises $439M, tops $2B valuation

PixVerse, the Singapore-based AI video-generation startup, closed a $439 million Series C extension that pushes its valuation past $2 billion, TechCrunch reported on July 13. The extension adds Mirae Asset, Eastern Bell Capital, BlueFocus, CloudAlpha, Ivy Capital, Grand Mount Capital, Lollapalooza Capital, and Alibaba, alongside returning backers iGlobe Partners and OCBC’s Lion X Ventures. PixVerse’s original Series C, led by CDH Investments, closed in March at roughly $300 million.

Founded in 2023 by Wang Changhu, a former ByteDance computer-vision engineer, and Jaden Xie, PixVerse says its app has drawn more than 150 million registered users and 15 million monthly active users across 177 countries. The new money is earmarked for its R-Series line of world models, built around R1, which the company describes as a real-time world model: rather than rendering a fixed clip, it generates video continuously in response to user input. PixVerse is applying R1 to a game engine that lets players act in natural language while the model generates the visual world and its mechanics as they go.

What it means for you

PixVerse’s bet is that video generation and game generation converge, that the same real-time model making its clips interactive can also make a playable world. That’s a bigger claim than another video-funding round, and it puts PixVerse in more direct competition with Kling AI, which raised $2B from China’s platform giants the same month, than with tools that only generate static clips. Whether R1 holds up outside curated demos is the detail worth watching before treating “world model” as more than a pitch term.
