Caterpillar is using decades of autonomous mining experience to guide how it deploys AI across jobsites, manufacturing, and its own software development.
Caterpillar CTO Jaime Mineart says the company is carrying lessons from decades of autonomous mining equipment, automated haul trucks, drilling, underground loaders, into broader AI deployment across jobsites, quarries, and manufacturing. Caterpillar has roughly 1.6 million connected assets and more than 16 petabytes of structured data feeding the effort, which now includes AI for generating manufacturing digital twins and agents used internally to modernize legacy code and catch software defects earlier.
