The Open ASR Leaderboard added Hindi, its first Indic language, using new evaluation sets covering nearly 4,900 speakers and a Hindi-specific error metric.
Hugging Face’s Open ASR Leaderboard added Hindi, spoken by more than half a billion people, as its first Indic language. Two new evaluation sets, Indian English and Hindi, cover 4,888 speakers across varied regions and acoustic conditions, and Hindi results use an orthographically-informed error metric since the language lacks normalized spelling. Regional breakdowns already show gaps invisible in aggregate scores: one model’s error rate swings from 4.38 to 6.06 depending on speaker region.
