ChatGPT Work launches with Hosted Sites

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work on July 9, a background agent powered by GPT-5.6 that runs complex projects autonomously for hours. It creates documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and websites by pulling context from local files, connected apps, and its built-in browser.

A Hosted Sites beta feature lets paid users turn any Work output into a published web page or interactive dashboard. Sites are hosted by OpenAI and shareable by link.

The Codex app is merging into the ChatGPT desktop app, giving one interface for both conversational and agentic work. ChatGPT Work is available on macOS and Windows desktop from today, with task monitoring and approval accessible on any device.

Free and Go users run tasks on GPT-5.6 Terra. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users choose among Sol, Terra, or Luna and set an effort level per task. Ultra mode, which spawns subagents for the most demanding jobs, is limited to Pro and Enterprise.

What it means for operators

ChatGPT Work enters a market where Anthropic’s Cowork runs cross-device and OpenAI began billing for Workspace Agents two days ago. Work is tightly integrated with Office-style deliverables; Cowork is stronger for Claude-native coding tasks.
