Cursor launches Origin, its own code host

Cursor's Origin gives paid plans a GitHub-synced code host with repos, pull requests, and agent access built in, its first launch since the SpaceX deal.
Cursor began rolling out Origin, a code-hosting service built into its desktop app, on August 17. It’s an early beta available to everyone on a paid plan except enterprise organizations whose admins opt out, and it’s Cursor’s first major product launch since SpaceX closed its $60 billion acquisition of parent company Anysphere in mid-August. Origin adds repositories, pull requests, code browsing, and direct agent access in a new tab inside Cursor, plus a dedicated command-line tool for the same features.
Teams can connect an existing GitHub organization and sync chosen repos into Origin, where they sit alongside Cursor-native repositories and update in real time. GitHub stays the system of record for now: pushes still land there first, and Origin mirrors them, rather than the reverse. The rollout landed on the same day GitHub suffered a six-hour, 42-minute global outage, its seventh incident in fifteen days, a coincidence Cursor didn’t plan but that made the pitch for an alternative land harder than it otherwise would have.
What it means for you
If your team already runs most of its coding work through Cursor’s agents, Origin is worth testing as a secondary host now, while it’s still a one-way sync from GitHub and the stakes of a sync bug are low. Don’t cut over your actual source of truth until Origin has run clean through a few weeks of real pull request traffic, and watch how Cursor prices this once the beta ends: a code host bundled with your agent subscription changes the vendor-lock-in math on switching away from Cursor later, the same tradeoff Warp is making from the other direction by wrapping the whole software factory instead of just the repo.
