Google shut down its imagen-4.0-generate-001, imagen-4.0-fast-generate-001, and imagen-4.0-ultra-generate-001 endpoints on August 17, the date it set when announcing the deprecation on June 15. The old generate_images() method is gone; image generation now runs through generate_content(), the same call Gemini uses for text. Google points developers to its Gemini image model as the replacement. Matching Vertex AI endpoints retired earlier, on June 30.
