Mosseri: AI token budgets may soon get caps
Meta's Adam Mosseri says per-engineer AI token spending could be capped in 1-2 years, after Meta killed an internal leaderboard as costs neared billions.
Speaking on Lenny’s Podcast, Mosseri said Meta shut down an internal AI token-spend leaderboard, calling it “a terrible idea” that fueled a “token incinerator” culture as company AI costs headed toward billions in 2026. He expects strong engineers’ token burn rate to approach salary levels within a year or two, at which point caps become “necessary.”
