OpenAI quietly bought a presentation startup
OpenAI acquired NextSlide, which turns prompts and documents into editable presentations, months before disclosing the deal; the team now works on ChatGPT.
OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup whose software converts written source material into an editable slide deck, founder Ahmed Beshry confirmed. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, and Beshry noted the deal actually closed earlier in the year, with the public announcement coming several months later. Beshry previously co-founded Caper AI, a smart-shopping-cart startup Instacart acquired in 2021. NextSlide’s team is now working directly on ChatGPT. Beshry summed up the mission:
To make visual communication more accessible and help more people express their ideas clearly.

Presentation generation has been a crowded but shallow category, mostly template-fillers wrapped around an LLM call. Folding a dedicated prompt-to-deck team directly into ChatGPT rather than leaving it as a standalone acquisition target suggests OpenAI sees this as a first-party ChatGPT feature rather than a separate product line, the same absorb-and-ship pattern behind ChatGPT Work’s document and site generation.
