Codex turns recorded workflows into skills

OpenAI shipped Record and Replay in the Codex macOS app on June 18, in app version 26.616. You demonstrate a workflow once, the app records the steps, and it turns them into a reusable skill the agent can replay later. The pitch is for repeatable jobs that are easier to show than to write down: creating a configured issue, publishing a video, pulling a recurring report.
It is open to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers, but only on macOS, and at launch it stays off in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland. It needs Computer Use turned on, since replay drives real apps and the browser rather than just writing text. OpenAI tells users to keep recordings focused on the task and to avoid capturing secrets or sensitive data.
Why this matters
This is workflow automation aimed at people who would never write a script, which is most operators. Recording a process you already do beats describing it, and a saved skill is something a teammate can run without learning the steps. The cautions are the obvious ones. A recording that drives your real apps with your access is powerful in the same way it is risky, so keep a person checking what it does before you let it run unattended.
