OpenAI said on June 21 that Samsung Electronics is deploying ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to employees worldwide, calling it one of its largest enterprise rollouts to date. The deployment spans Samsung’s main businesses, from semiconductors and displays to consumer electronics and telecommunications.
The split is straightforward. ChatGPT Enterprise is the general tool, for searching and analysing information, drafting documents, and working through data. Codex is the developer side, for writing, reviewing, and debugging code, and for letting non-engineers turn an idea into a small internal tool or workflow. ChatGPT Enterprise is the version with admin controls, data protection, and user management, which is the part that made this possible at all.
Why this matters
What matters is who bought them. In 2023 Samsung banned generative AI tools outright after engineers pasted confidential source code into ChatGPT and it left the building. The reversal three years later is not a change of heart about the risk; it is a bet that the controls in the enterprise tier now make that risk manageable without a blanket ban.
