OpenAI's Daybreak security models hit AWS

Daybreak Red and Daybreak Blue, OpenAI's vetted cybersecurity models, are now on Amazon Bedrock for eligible customers, alongside OpenAI's own API.
OpenAI and AWS announced on August 11 that Daybreak Red and Daybreak Blue, the two access tiers of OpenAI’s Daybreak cybersecurity initiative, are now available to eligible customers on Amazon Bedrock. Daybreak Red runs GPT-5.6 Cyber, a model purpose-trained for authorized vulnerability research and exploit validation. Daybreak Blue runs GPT-5.6 Sol with safeguards calibrated for defensive security work rather than general use. Both are limited to the US East (N. Virginia) region for now, reachable through the Bedrock console or the Responses API’s bedrock-mantle endpoint.
Access still runs through OpenAI’s own gate: customers need to be enrolled in its Trusted Access for Cyber vetting program before AWS will grant them a Bedrock request, so this is a new delivery path rather than a new approval process. That vetting requirement is the same one OpenAI put in place when it first added GPT-5.6 Cyber to Daybreak Red and then expanded the broader Daybreak toolset. AWS VP of Security John Sheehan framed the move as giving defenders an edge, and OpenAI has already pointed to results from the underlying model: security researchers using GPT-5.6 Cyber found two previously unknown Chrome V8 vulnerabilities, tracked as CVE-2026-15903, that could enable memory corruption and a heap sandbox escape.
What it means for you
This is an availability change, not a capability change. If you already have Trusted Access for Cyber approval and run your security tooling on AWS, you no longer need a separate OpenAI account relationship to reach Daybreak, since it now sits behind the same Bedrock console and billing you use for other models. If you don’t have that approval yet, the AWS listing changes nothing about eligibility. Either way, the CVE-2026-15903 disclosure is a concrete data point on what these models can find in practice, worth citing if you’re building the case internally for authorized AI-assisted vulnerability research.
