OpenAI retires GPT-5.2 from ChatGPT
OpenAI removed GPT-5.2 Instant, Thinking, and Pro from ChatGPT on June 12. Open chats now continue on GPT-5.5, which stays available.
On June 12, OpenAI removed GPT-5.2 from ChatGPT. All three variants are gone: GPT-5.2 Instant, GPT-5.2 Thinking, and GPT-5.2 Pro. If you had a conversation open on one of them, it does not stop. It continues on the matching GPT-5.5 model instead. The GPT-5.5 line stays available, so existing chats keep working and you only lose the specific model version.
OpenAI flagged the move when it shipped GPT-5.3 Instant. Its stated rule is that a model generally stays in ChatGPT for about 90 days after a successor ships, then retires. GPT-5.2 reached that point.
Why this matters
A model you built a workflow around can be pulled on a published schedule, and your saved chats move to its replacement without asking you first. GPT-5.5 is not GPT-5.2. Wording and refusal behavior can shift in ways that quietly change a prompt you spent real time getting right. So re-test the prompts and chats that mattered, on the model they are running on now.
