Deezer's AI music detector scans rivals

Deezer's free tool now checks playlists from 20 streaming platforms for AI-generated tracks, claiming over 99% detection accuracy in 27 languages.

Deezer released a free web tool on June 11 that scans playlists from 20 other streaming platforms, including Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music, and flags tracks it identifies as AI-generated. The detector works in 27 languages and looks for the acoustic artifacts that generative audio models leave behind; Deezer claims accuracy above 99% on fully AI-generated tracks.

The company shipped some self-interested but striking numbers with it: 43% of users migrating to Deezer from other services arrived with AI-generated music already in their playlists, and 80% of surveyed listeners want AI tracks clearly labelled. Deezer has been labelling AI music in its own catalog since last year; this extends the check to everyone else’s.

Why this matters

A streaming service just turned AI detection into a competitive feature aimed at its rivals’ catalogs. That is a useful preview of where all content platforms are heading: detection plus labelling as a trust pitch, with the same logic the EU just formalized in its code of practice for marking AI content.

For operators the practical reads are simple. If you publish music, podcasts with generated segments, or AI voiceovers, labelling is shifting from courtesy to expectation, and third parties may label you if you do not. And treat that 99% accuracy claim the way you treat any vendor-measured number: real detectors have false positives, the same caution that applies to AI-generated images in business use.
