Anthropic funds 1,000 AI nonprofit fellows
Claude Corps, announced June 11, commits $150 million to place salaried early-career fellows inside 400+ US nonprofits to build AI capacity.
On June 11, Anthropic announced Claude Corps, a national fellowship that will train and place 1,000 early-career professionals inside US nonprofits to implement AI in their operations. The company is putting $150 million behind the first phase. Fellows get a $85,000 annual salary plus benefits for a 12-month placement, with five hours of structured training per week.
The mechanics are concrete: more than 400 host nonprofits in the first 12 months, across education, food security, veteran support, and social services. The first cohort of 100 fellows starts in October 2026, with further cohorts in January and August 2027. Eligibility skews deliberately junior: applicants need under two years of full-time work experience, US work authorization, and no specific degree. Fellowship applications for the first cohort close July 17, and host-organization applications are open now.
Why this matters
Read it both ways. For Anthropic it is distribution and goodwill in one move: a thousand people trained on Claude, embedded in organizations that would never hire an AI engineer at market rate. For the nonprofits it is a real subsidy, a salaried implementer for a year, at the cost of building on one vendor’s stack.
