xAI turbines to stay past a full year
SpaceX says the unpermitted gas turbines powering xAI's Memphis-area data centers won't be fully removed until July 2027, as a permanent gas plant is built.
SpaceX said it will remove the roughly 69 unpermitted gas turbines powering xAI’s Colossus data centers near Memphis as it transitions to a permanent 1.2-gigawatt gas plant, with removal starting as early as August but not complete until July 2027. The NAACP and Southern Environmental Law Center are still suing xAI over the turbines’ lack of permits.
