XPeng's humanoid robotics business raised over $900M at a $6.3B valuation, backed by Tencent and Alibaba, ahead of IRON's production run.
XPeng’s robotics business announced August 24 that it raised more than $900 million in a round led by IDG Capital and Gaorong Ventures, with strategic participation from Tencent and Alibaba, at a post-money valuation of over $6.3 billion. XPeng said the funding breaks down as about $600 million from outside investors, $200 million contributed by an XPeng subsidiary, and the remaining $100 million put in by company leadership, and it will retain controlling ownership with the unit staying consolidated into XPeng Group’s financials. The company calls it the largest single-round private financing in China’s embodied AI industry to date.
The capital is earmarked for R&D on IRON, XPeng’s next-generation humanoid robot, which the company says has 76 degrees of freedom in its body and 21 in each hand, a covered flexible lattice structure, and three onboard Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS. XPeng plans mass production by the end of 2026, starting inside its own stores and campuses, with external deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027, targeting more than 1,000 units a month and a longer-term goal of 1 million units by 2030, a timeline that would put IRON ahead of Tesla’s stalled Optimus program.
What it means for you
Tencent and Alibaba backing this round puts real money behind XPeng treating humanoid robotics as a near-term product line, not a research side project. If you’re evaluating where world-model and physical-AI capital is flowing, IRON’s 2026 mass-production date is a concrete milestone to track, since it’s one of the first humanoid programs with a specific unit-volume target and delivery date instead of just a demo video.
