Ai2 details OlmoEarth's continent-scale run
Ai2 says a North America wildfire-risk run used 19,600 CPUs and 994 GPUs to hit a 155x speedup, cutting 4,737 serial compute hours to 30.5 wall-clock hours.
The Allen Institute for AI published an engineering deep-dive on the infrastructure behind its OlmoEarth foundation models, first launched in late 2025. A recent North America wildfire-risk run processed continent-scale satellite imagery for fractions of a penny per square kilometer by splitting the job into CPU-based data acquisition, GPU-based inference, and CPU-based postprocessing stages.
