$40B Aligned Data Centers deal closes

BlackRock's GIP, Abu Dhabi's MGX, and an Nvidia/Microsoft-backed group closed the largest-ever data center M&A deal, buying Aligned's 6.4GW portfolio.

A consortium of BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, Abu Dhabi’s MGX, and the Nvidia- and Microsoft-backed Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership closed its $40 billion acquisition of Aligned Data Centers on July 21, buying 100% of the company’s equity from Macquarie Asset Management. Aligned owns more than 6.4 gigawatts of operational and planned data center capacity across 51 sites, mostly in the US. First announced in October at the same valuation, it’s the largest data center M&A deal on record, with the consortium planning up to $100 billion in combined equity and debt investment in the portfolio.
