Anthropic, Blackstone launch $1.5B AI firm

Anthropic, Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs have launched Ode with Anthropic, a $1.5 billion joint venture built around a bet that the biggest unmet need in enterprise AI is not a better model but someone to actually implement one.

The venture was founded in May 2026 and built on Fractional AI, an AI engineering services startup it acquired shortly after announcing. Fractional had spent 11 months as an OpenAI implementation partner before the acquisition; Ode’s approach is now “Claude-first,” though not exclusively limited to Anthropic’s models. Chris Taylor, Fractional’s co-founder, is CEO; fellow co-founder Eddie Siegel is chief technologist. The venture runs about 100 engineers today, aimed at companies where an AI project counts among the CEO’s top one or two priorities.

Taylor’s framing of the opportunity is direct:

It’s pretty easy to imagine this as a trillion-dollar company someday if we execute well. The competitive set he is describing includes OpenAI’s own Deployment Company, plus long-established consultancies like Deloitte and Accenture’s forward-deployed engineering practices. Ode’s pitch against both is headcount quality over headcount size: elite generalist engineers, many of them former founders, instead of large mass-market delivery teams.

The bet says something about where the AI market is heading next. If model capability keeps converging across vendors, the harder, more durable problem becomes turning a capable model into a working process inside a specific company’s data, tools, and compliance constraints, and that is a services problem, not a model problem.
