Cursor adds subscriptions to cloud agents

Cursor's update lets cloud agents watch PRs, Slack threads and schedules, pin skills as modes, run subagents on isolated machines, and track long-lived goals.

Cursor shipped an update to its cloud agents and agent harness. The headline addition is Subscriptions: agents can monitor your pull requests, watch a Slack thread, or run scheduled tasks, and act automatically when an event fires rather than only when you prompt them. The release also adds Custom Modes, letting you pin a skill as a persistent mode to keep an agent focused; subagents that each run in an isolated virtual machine so parallel tests and fixes do not collide; goal tracking through a /goal command for long-lived objectives; and steering improvements so you can send follow-up messages without interrupting a tool call mid-run.

What it means for you

The shift here is from request-response to standing work. A subscription that watches a PR and reacts on its own is the difference between an agent you drive and one that runs a chore in the background, which is where a lot of agent tooling is heading this month. Isolated subagents matter for anyone who has watched parallel agent runs step on each other’s files; giving each its own machine is the correct fix, and it echoes the sandboxing push in n8n’s 2.36 agent sandboxes. It also lands days after Cursor’s own Origin code-hosting launch, and alongside Slack Code putting coding agents in team channels — the vendors are racing to own the whole agent-plus-repo loop. If you use Cursor, the practical move is to wire one subscription to a low-stakes repo and watch how it behaves before handing it anything that ships.
