Meta's Q2 call: personal agents for billions
Zuckerberg told investors billions of people will have a 24/7 personal AI agent within five years, and detailed Meta's parallel push to sell AI to enterprises.
On Meta’s Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg told investors that “it’s extremely unlikely” that five years from now billions of people won’t have a personal AI agent “working on your behalf 24/7” across goals like finances, health, relationships, and household management. He’s positioning that bet against rivals focused on coding and enterprise work: Anthropic and OpenAI on agentic coding, Google on its Gemini Spark personal-agent tool. Zuckerberg said personal agents will be “the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines,” with WhatsApp and Messenger as the delivery surface, and pointed to Meta’s existing business agents on those apps, now used by more than 1 million businesses weekly, as an early proof point.
On enterprise, Zuckerberg said Meta sees a “large enterprise opportunity” spanning APIs, business agents, and potentially selling compute directly, an extension of its advertiser relationships rather than a clean break from them. He also said Meta expects to spend $130 billion to $145 billion on capital expenditures in 2026 and described a “portfolio” approach to that compute, split between running its own workloads and selling capacity to others at a premium.
What it means for operators
Zuckerberg is explicit that Meta lacks the ecosystem access to email and documents that Google and Microsoft already have for personal agents, and the company posted a nearly 10% stock drop and a 91% year-over-year fall in free cash flow the same quarter. If you’re evaluating Meta as an agent platform, the more concrete signal than the five-year prediction is the WhatsApp/Messenger business-agent adoption number, since that’s the surface Zuckerberg says personal agents will actually ship on first.
