UN AI panel issues first global assessment
The UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on AI issued its preliminary report July 1: capability is outpacing regulation and understanding.
Co-chairs Yoshua Bengio and Maria Ressa briefed reporters July 1 on the panel’s preliminary report, the UN’s first independent scientific AI assessment. Its three defining trends: accelerating capability, increasing concentration of power, and declining human control. Ressa’s summary: “The pace is not slowing; the power is concentrating; and control is not guaranteed.”
