Z.ai ships ZCode, a GLM-5.2 coding app

Z.ai, the Beijing lab formerly known as Zhipu AI, released ZCode: a free desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux that it calls an agentic development environment built around GLM-5.2. VentureBeat covered the launch on July 2. The app centers on the ZCode Agent, tuned together with the model and its execution workflow for continuous multi-step development tasks rather than single completions.

The stand-out feature is remote control. A running agent can be steered from WeChat, Feishu, or Telegram, so a task kicked off at a desk can be nudged along from a phone. That maps directly onto how the Chinese developer market communicates, and it arrives before most Western competitors have shipped an equivalent.

Pricing undercuts the field. ZCode itself is free with your own API key, and Z.ai’s GLM Coding Plan runs from a $16.20 Lite tier to a $144 Max tier, against roughly $20 to $200 for comparable Cursor, Claude Code, and Copilot tiers. GLM-5.2 ranked second on Code Arena as of mid-June, behind only Claude Fable 5.
